About

Particles and Waves is a weekly 60-minute show on CiTR focusing on awesome music. Much like the quantum theory which inspired the name, the definitions of “awesome” and “music” are impossible to measure until they’re directly observed, and can produce highly unexpected results–Dutch prog, queer rap, local indie pop, classic soul, and everything in between. This is an eclectic show where I aim to expose listeners to something new, profile emerging talent, gush over how much amazing music exists in the world, and occasionally make cringeworthy physics jokes. You can listen online (for free!) at player.citr.ca, and also find the archives on my show page. The Particles and Waves blog is home to the weekly show playlists, as well as other music-related writing from the distant past.

P&W began in October of 2013, at the University of Victoria’s CFUV radio station. After nearly two years of weekly broadcasts, the show took an extended hiatus while I moved to a different city to begin graduate school. I’m thrilled to bring back the show at my new home station in Vancouver!

Your Host

MiaMy name is Mia. I’m a graduate student at UBC, specializing in professional nerdiness; before that, I was a professional copywriter, amateur code sleuth, and loud Twitter weirdo*. The first CD I ever bought was B*Witched’s self-titled debut album, and I have spent the rest of my life attempting to atone for that grotesquely uncool sin. Luckily, I have a radio show on which to play the cool tunes I find.

You can find me on Twitter, if you wish.

My official website lists my past projects here.
And if you’re a Spotify fan (if you’re not, you should be) you can Follow me to get a glimpse of what I listen to at work.

Got questions about the show, or want to ask about getting your band on for a live performance and interview? Shoot me an email at mia [at] particlesandwavesshow.com!

*I am still a loud Twitter weirdo.
